Tax Chambers Complete Oil Tax Dispute in Uganda

Tax Chambers team Stephen Brandon QC, Amanda Hardy and Harriet Brown have recently completed their oil taxation case, on behalf of Tullow Oil, which was heard by the Tax Tribunal in Kampala, Uganda. The decision of the Tribunal is expected in May.

In running this large and complex tax appeal, the team have been dealing with the intricacies of the Ugandan code for the taxation of petroleum operations and the complex interplay between domestic and international law, including potential conflicts between domestic and international tribunals. The case has involved the team appearing in Kampala at five hearings and has contributed to the development of their unique skills in international hydrocarbon tax litigation.
